7 Things You Didn’t Know About Gospel Singer Bunmi Akinnaanu Who Died after Long Battle with Leg Ailment

Popular Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu, best known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has reportedly died on Wednesday, January 14, after a prolonged battle with leg ailment.

Before her death, the singer had publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing. Her condition became a subject of concern after a video of her looking visibly unwell surfaced online.

In the footage, Bunmi Akinnanu was seen struggling to speak and shedding tears during a prayer session.

She had a bandage on her hand, while her leg appeared swollen. During the session, a pastor prayed for her healing, encouraging her to keep faith and trust God for recovery and testimony.

Weeks later, fellow gospel singers Yinka Alaseyori and Sarah Apekeola took to social media to seek financial support for her medical care. Other artistes, including Olabest, Alayo Melody, and Lanre Alewilese, also joined in appealing to fans and well-wishers for assistance.

Seven things to know about the late Bunmi Akinnanu

 1.Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye was born on November 19 in Lagos State and hailed from Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

2.She began singing at the age of 10, showing an early passion for gospel music.

3.Bunmi Akinnanu left a successful career in banking to pursue music full-time, dedicating her life to gospel ministry.

4.She rose to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with Nigerian Christians and became widely used in churches and homes. She followed up with other inspiring songs, including “O Ti Sure.”

5.She studied Business Administration at Lagos State Polytechnic, completed her industrial training at Ecobank, and worked across various banking departments. She was retained after her IT and spent 10 years in the banking sector before fully transitioning into music.

6.Bunmi Akinnanu was 46 years old at the time of her passing. 

7.She was a professional gospel artiste with five albums to her credit, including Dabira, Alatileyinmi, Ma-Sunkun-Mo, Tujuka, Testimony, and her most recent album, O Ti Mure Wa.
