Controversial Nigerian entertainer, popularly known as Charly Boy, on Thursday night surprised former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his 89th birthday celebration at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.
Obasanjo, who turned 89 on March 5, 2026, hosted dignitaries, associates and well-wishers at the event held at the Presidential Library.
One of the highlights of the celebration was Charly Boy’s dramatic presentation of a birthday gift to the former president. In a video shared online, the 75-year-old entertainer was seen carrying a large box on his head as he approached Obasanjo’s table, then presented the gift.
Sharing the moment on social media, Charly Boy expressed admiration for the former president, describing him as “a man of many parts.”
According to him, the atmosphere at the celebration changed when Obasanjo entered the hall, with guests rising to pay their respects to the elder statesman.

Charly Boy also revealed that after presenting the gift, Obasanjo surprised him by planting a kiss on his cheek, a moment that drew laughter and cheers from guests at the event.
He added that the gesture symbolised honour and respect for a man whose life has played a significant role in Nigeria’s history.
He said: “As Chief Olusegun Obasanjo step inside, the whole atmosphere change. Respect rise for the room. People stand. Glasses lift. Smiles everywhere. The man wey history don write plenty chapters about go sit for the high table like the true elder wey him be.
“Then my own moment showed face. I carry my birthday gift. But I no carry am normal way. I balance am for my head gidigba! Village boy style.
“Step by step I waka go the high table. No hurry. Just respect. Rhythm. And small drama… the way CharlyBoy sabi. When I reach Baba, I present the gift.
“Simple moment… but the love, warmth and joy inside am heavy. Next thing wey happen shock even me. Baba plant correct kiss for my gorimakpa. The hall burst laugh.”
Obasanjo, born March 5, 1937, served as Nigeria’s military Head of State between 1976 and 1979 and later as a democratically elected president from 1999 to 2007.
He turned 89 on Thursday, drawing tributes from political leaders and dignitaries across the country.
