The in-laws of popular Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya have spoken out following controversy sparked by a viral video from his recent traditional wedding ceremony, in which his new bride appeared noticeably indifferent.
The private ceremony, which held on Saturday and attended by close family and friends, gained widespread reaction after a clip surfaced online showing the actor dancing joyfully beside his bride, who stood still with a blank expression.
The video quickly went viral, prompting speculation on social media that the bride may have been coerced into the marriage.

In response, a female relative of the bride released a video to address the growing rumours. She firmly denied claims that the union was forced, stating that all traditional rites were properly conducted and that the couple shares a genuine bond.
“To everyone asking if our daughter was forced to marry Akin Olaiya — that is completely false. Her bride price was fully paid, and we did not give her away cheaply,” the relative said. “They truly love each other. As Hausas, we don’t marry off our daughters for money or friendship. This is a union based on love.”

To further counter the negative narrative, additional footage later emerged showing the bride smiling, interacting warmly with guests, and appearing content throughout the ceremony. This suggested that the viral moment may have captured a fleeting expression rather than her overall demeanor.
Akin Olaiya, a respected figure in the Yoruba-language film industry, has largely kept his personal life out of the public eye.
