Renowned American civil rights activist Jesse Jackson has died.

eelive.ng gathered that he died during the early hours of today, Tuesday, February 17. He died at the age of 84.

Jesse Jackson was a prominent leader of the US civil rights movement during the 1960s.

He died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning, surrounded by family and friends.

Announcing his passing, Jackson’s family said:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Civil Rights leader and founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Honorable Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. He died peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his loved ones.”
