AMVCA 2026: Lisabi, Colors of Fire Lead the Pack of Winnings

The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA 2026) is currently underway at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The glamorous event, which kicked off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, is celebrating outstanding achievements in African film, television, and digital storytelling.

Technical & Craft Categories

Best Costume Design: “Colours of Fire” – Valerie Okeke (WINNER)

Other nominees: “The Serpent’s Gift” – Mary Chukuma; “The Real Housewives of Lagos (S3)” – Deola & Darey Art Alade; “Something About The Briggs” – Yolanda Okereke; “To Kill a Monkey” – Ikechukwu Urum & John Joseph Angel.

Best Makeup: “Lisabi (A Legend Is Born)” – Adeola Thelma Bamgboye (WINNER)

Best Sound/Sound Design: “My Father’s Shadow” – Pius Fatoke, CJ Mirra (WINNER)

Best Art Direction: “Colours of Fire” – Ajamolaya Bunmi (WINNER)

Best Writing – TV Series: “MTV Shuga Mashariki” – Annette Shadeya, Natasha Likimani, Mkamzee Mwatela, Arnold Mwanjila, Makgano Mamabolo (WINNER)

Best Digital Content Creator: “Leave To Live” – Emmanuel Kanaga & Sophia Chisom (WINNER)

Best Indigenous Language (West Africa): “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born” – Lateef Adedimeji (WINNER)

Acting Categories

Best Supporting Actress: Linda Ejiofor – “The Herd” (WINNER)

Best Supporting Actor: Bucci Franklin – “To Kill a Monkey” (WINNER)

Other highlights: Industry Merit Awards honoured veterans, including Nkem Owoh, Sanni Mu’azu, and Richard Mofe Damijo.

Films like Colours of Fire, My Father’s Shadow, Lisabi (A Legend Is Born), The Herd, Gingerrr, and To Kill a Monkey are having a strong night across categories. Major awards, including Best Movie, Best Director, Best Lead Actor, and Best Lead Actress, are expected soon.
