Angélique Kidjo, the renowned Beninese singer, has made history by becoming the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for African music and culture, as Kidjo’s legacy extends beyond her own work to represent a broader continental identity.
With a career spanning over four decades, Kidjo has consistently pushed boundaries in the global music scene, blending traditional African rhythms with elements of funk, jazz, Latin, and pop. Her genre-defying sound has earned her numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards and the prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2023.

Beyond her artistic achievements, Kidjo is a committed humanitarian, serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Batonga Foundation, which advocates for the education and empowerment of adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is set to unveil Kidjo’s star, joining her with other legendary musicians and entertainers, including Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, and Shaquille O’Neal.
