Five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo will be honored Tuesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a milestone as the first African musician and first Black African recognized on the iconic boulevard.
The Benin-born artist, 66, has forged a four-decade international career that has earned her widespread acclaim, including recognition from Time magazine as “Africa’s premier diva.” Her music blends traditional African rhythms with global influences, resonating with audiences worldwide.
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised Kidjo’s impact in a statement: “Angelique Kidjo’s extraordinary artistry and global influence have inspired audiences across generations and continents. We are proud to honor her as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing her remarkable contributions to music and culture around the world.”

At the morning ceremony, Kidjo will be joined by Oscar-nominated actor Willem Dafoe and record producer Harvey Mason Jr.
Reflecting on the honor when it was announced last year, Kidjo told AFP: “I may be the first African female singer to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but I am convinced that I will not be the last. Many others will follow, and that fills my heart with joy.”
The recognition underscores her enduring role in elevating African music on the world stage.
