
Nigerian born British boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to the gym weeks after a devastating car accident in Nigeria which occurred on December 29, 2025, claiming the lives of two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
Nineteen days after the crash, Joshua shared a video on Snapchat showing his light gym training, which included pad work and cycling. He captioned the session “mental strength therapy,” highlighting the emotional toll the incident has taken on him.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, emphasised that the boxer’s future in the sport remains uncertain, with the focus currently on his physical and emotional recovery. Hearn stated that Joshua would need time to heal before making any decisions about his boxing career.

In his words: “He will need his time physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually before he makes a decision on his future. I do think he will want to return to boxing, but that will be his decision when the time is right.”
The accident occurred while Joshua was traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve.
As the boxer continues his rehabilitation, support from fans and the boxing community has been none stop with all wishing him fortitude to bear the losses and recovery from his injuries.
