Anthony Joshua’s Driver Faces Charges Over Fatal Crash That Killed Two of His Friends

Nigerian police have charged 46‑year‑old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the road collision that injured British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua and killed two of his close associates, officials confirmed on Friday.

The tragic crash occurred on December 29, 2025, along the busy Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua, his personal trainer Latif “Latz Ayodele” and strength coach “Sina Ghami” reportedly collided with a stationary truck on the side of the road.

Joshua suffered minor injuries and was treated at a Lagos hospital before being discharged, while Ayodele and Ghami were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

eelive.ng reported on Friday, Kayode appeared before the Sagamu Magistrate Court charged by the Ogun State Police Command with four offences, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence.

He was granted bail of 5 million naira (~$3,480) with two sureties but remains in custody until bail conditions are met. The case has been adjourned to January 20 for further proceedings.

The incident, which occurred in a tragic holiday week for the boxing world, has renewed calls for improved road safety along major Nigerian highways. President Bola Tinubu extended condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the crash as a tragic accident, while Joshua’s promoter has confirmed the boxer will remain in Nigeria as the legal process unfolds.
