In an effort to foster reconciliation, he joins a local Catholic church and helps establish a mediation committee. However, his mission becomes deeply personal when he falls in love with Adaego, the daughter of an Igbo chief whose resentment toward the Nigerian Army runs deep because of the losses his family suffered during the war.
