Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr has won the 2025 BET Award for Best International Act, solidifying her position as a global music star.
The 22-year-old singer beat out strong contenders, including South Africa’s Tyla, fellow Nigerian Rema, and Ghana’s Black Sherif, to take home the prestigious award.
The BET Awards ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrates Black excellence in music, film, sports, and culture. This year’s event was hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, who brought his signature humor and sharp wit to the stage. Hart’s opening monologue included humorous jabs at major pop culture figures, setting the tone for a lively and entertaining night.
Ayra Starr’s win marks a significant milestone in her career, following her debut nomination in 2022.
She has consistently earned nods in various categories, including Best New International Act in 2022, Best International Act in 2023 and the BET Her Award for her hit single “Commas” in 2024.
