
Ayra Starr, a Nigerian recording artiste has recently sat down with Billboard to share the backstories behind some of her most iconic pictures.
On her viral bathroom selfie with American pop star Coco Jones and R&B crooner, Ayra jokingly claimed that she was the first African to take a bathroom selfie at the Met Gala, despite Tems, who was also in the photo, being African.
“First African to take a bathroom selfie at the MET Gala, period!,” she said.

Eelive.ng recalls that Ayra Starr made her Met Gala debut at the 2025 edition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, on 5 May.
She joined other celebrities such as fellow singers Burna Boy, Tems, and Tyla; renowned novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and popular designer Swanky Jerry, as part of the African contingent to the world’s foremost fashion event.
Ayra Starr gained mainstream prominence in 2021 when she released her self-titled EP via Don Jazzy’s Mavins Record. She has since remained one of the prominent singers promoting Afrobeats culture in contemporary music culture.
Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter born in Benin Republic. She achieved mainstream international recognition in 2022, with the release of her hit song “Rush”.
