Nigerian Afro-pop sensation Ayra Starr has opened up about the unexpected inspiration behind her hit single “Beggie Beggie,” revealing the track was birthed during a mundane commute on a public bus.

The Mavin Records signee disclosed that the song, which features on her critically acclaimed debut studio album 19 & Dangerous, was written entirely in transit following a humorous exchange between two passengers.

Starr, who recounted the experience during a recent interview, explained that a chance encounter with a persistent commuter sparked the creative flare needed to pen the track.

According to the singer, she was merely observing her surroundings on her journey home when inspiration struck.

“I have a song called ‘Beggie Beggie’ in my first album that I literally wrote in the bus while I was going back home,” the singer shared.

Somebody was begging inside the bus and the woman beside me was like, ‘See this one, beggie beggie, leave me alone!” She added.

The 23-year-old artiste noted that the woman’s sharp, relatable reaction immediately resonated with her, prompting her to pull out her phone and write the lyrics on the spot.
