Badman Gangsta: Asake Continues Pursuit of Relevance in New Single

Nigerian recording artiste, Ololade Ahmed, better known as Asake, has released a new single titled ‘Badman Gangsta’ featuring French musician, Tiakola.

Since he departed from Olamide’s Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) earlier in the year, Asake has transformed immensely both personally and professionally.

He went from being the sanguine, happy-go-lucky chap who burst into the scene in 2022 to surreptitiously embodying the persona of a man who is gliding through the melancholy hills. Acquiring more tattoos, garnering more piercings, and distancing himself from the Amapiano sound that made him relevant in the early part of his music career.

Asake is currently on a different path in his music career, having created his record label, Giran Republic. The singer-songwriter no longer sees music as just a hobby; he is now a businessman and a record executive. At 30, he isn’t just a musician anymore; he is one of the finest exports to emerge from the Nigerian entertainment industry; therefore, he must ostentatiously do things.

Badman Gangsta: Through the Dark Hills Come Meaning

The mood of the music video for Badman Gangsta is dark, like several of Asake’s new productions. The video was shot in black and white, and the tune was melancholy. Still searching for who his new person wants to be, Asake is seen relaxing alone in some parts of the video; in some other parts, he is with the French artiste, Tiakola.

In ‘Badman Gangsta’, Asake explains that he is looking for those who look for him, meaning, he isn’t prepared to explain his recent career choices or moves to anyone. In the earlier part of 2025, Asake’s record deal with YBNL fell through, and he tried to shed light upon the controversy in his single ‘Military’, then he had some family issues to deal with almost immediately.

His father claimed his son had refused to take care of him. Afterwards, it was disclosed that Asake has an 11-year-old daughter. Perhaps, more personal issues than Asake would have preferred to have remained in the dark, far away from the prying eyes of the nefarious public who would unapologetically feast on any celebrity’s weakness or frailty.

In Badman Gangsta, Asake is letting the public understand that they are yet to uncover, and this is only just the beginning.

Summary

Asake has continued to hint that the title of his new project will be ‘Money of the World’. It would be his 4th studio album and his first as an independent artiste since leaving Olamide’s YBNl in the earlier part of the year.

In 2022, he released his critically acclaimed debut studio album, Mr Money With The Vibes. He followed it up with Work of Art (2023) and Lungu Boy (2024).

He received a Grammy nomination in 2024, but did not emerge successful.
