Earlier, eelive.ng wrote about the former Big Brother Naija contestants who went ahead to become successful after their respective seasons. This is a follow-up. In this article, we will be discussing the contestants who fell off; they haven’t made the headlines or attained any form of prominence since they departed from the competition.
How would we be judging them?
The objective of this article isn’t to demean or disregard our subjects, instead, it is written to discuss how ephemeral fame and attention can be. We will be talking about those contestants who have been unable to secure major endorsement deals, and their names rarely ever come up during daily conversations or on trending issues on social media.
Equally, it is important to note that contestants from the inaugural edition, Big Brother Naija, will not be included in this list due to the timeframe and also, the immense development that has taken place in the last two decades. In 2006, social media wasn’t at its peak, also viewers only viewed BBNaija on the subscription platform, DSTV at the time. Video streaming platforms and alternatives weren’t available, therefore, the majority of Nigerians only watched the program highlights on television stations such as Silverbird and probably MBI or AIT on Sunday night. Therefore, they won’t be included.
We would only be judging those whom we saw on air, but they still don’t have clout or prominence to date. This list will include contestants from the 2017 edition to the 2024 edition that took a different route, much to the disappointment of viewers who predominantly spoke negatively about that edition.

Big Brother Naija: Top 10 ex- housemates who achieved mainstream prominence
1. Almost everyone from the 2024 BBNaija

Do you remember anyone from the 2024 Big Brother Naija edition? Even though the organizers made an attempt to develop a new methodology by bringing in a total of 28 housemates, coming in 14 pairs. Kingsley Sule, who is better known as KellyRae, emerged winner of the ninth edition of the most-watched reality show, however, no one can remember when he came out of it.
2. The fall of Efe Ejeba (BBNaija 2017)

“Warri, Warri,” Efe Ejeba shouted as he endeared himself to the hearts of Nigerians and those across the globe. He was hilarious, charming his way to the podium as the winner of the 2017 Big Brother Naija Gobe edition, unfortunately, Efe didn’t do much afterwards.
He intended on becoming a musician, albeit life just worked out the way it should. Today, no one remembers him; he wasn’t even invited for the 2023 Big Brother Naija Allstars edition despite being a past winner.
3. TBoss (BBNaija 2017)

In 2017, TBoss was on top of the world; she was one of the most influential contestants at the time. However, following the arrival of her child in 2019, TBoss hasn’t had similar star power and doesn’t make much headlines like when the competition concluded at the time.
4. Angel Awotarigha (BBNaija Double Wahala, 2018)

Angel was an outspoken contestant in the 2018 BBNaija Double Wahala house. He was expected to go into Nollywood and become the next big thing in the industry, just like Tobi Bakre, Erica Nlewedim, or the sports acumen of Ozomena. Sadly, he is not a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

5. k. Brule (BBNaija Double Wahala, 2018)

In the 2018 Big Brother Naija Double Wahala house, there were two bi-racial young men, Rico Swavey of blessed memory and K.Brule. Both light-skinned men wanted to be musicians, unfortunately, while Rico Swavey died in a car accident in October 2022, K.Brule didn’t garner much momentum either.
6. Cindy Okafor (BBNaija Pepper Dem Gang, 2019)

In the Big Brother Naija Pepper Dem edition, Cindy Okafor came into the competition like a thief in the night, and it was what made her become popular among netizens. Unfortunately, her fame fizzled away like smoke as well.
7. Esther Agunbiade (BBNaija Pepper Dem Gang, 2019)

As a lawyer, Esther Agunbiade would be expected to be in the courtroom; however, like most Nigerians her age, she is a content creator. This isn’t a bad thing per se, although she’s not one of the most popular housemates.
8. Trikytee (BBNaija Lockdown, 2020)

After participating in the 2020 BBNaija competition, Trikytee, a musician, wrote a book titled “How To Win Big Brother Naija,” the following year, a competition he failed to win himself. Isn’t that some irony?
Like others on the list, Trikytee’s music career didn’t amount to much. Tough!
9. Tega Dominic (BBNaija Shine Ya Eyes, 2021)

The last time Tega Dominic made headlines, she was the number one public enemy following allegations that she was romantically involved with fellow contestant Boma, despite being married at the time. She has since come out to claim she is not with her estranged husband.
Tega hasn’t been remembered for anything worthwhile ever since.
10. Dee-One (BBNaija Double Wahala, 2018)

The bio on Dee-One’s X account reads, “failed comedian“. Talk about accountability and self-aware, Dee understands where he is at this moment in his career.
This is an honorable mention. Pundits have mentioned that Dee-One is struggling to be prominent after appearing in the 2018 Big Brother Naija edition. Dee expected his comedy career to take off, but unfortunately, it didn’t. Now, he is on social media, waging war against social activists such as Very Dark Man and talking about trends that come up on social media.
Conclusion
As earlier stated, nothing comes easy, and appearing in Big Brother’s house doesn’t guarantee success in the latter phase of life. It’s just temporary fame and could be easily forgotten as soon as the competition concludes.
Once again, much applause to those who can put themselves on a national program such as Big Brother Naija.
