Some former inmates of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre have opened up about the alleged special treatment given to controversial Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, during his time in prison.

The ex-convicts, who recently regained their freedom, shared their experience on The Honest Bunch podcast. They claimed that throughout Bobrisky’s six-month sentence, he was kept in a separate, more privileged section of the male prison and did not mingle with the general inmate population.

According to them, while they served time under standard prison conditions, Bobrisky was placed in what they described as a “VIP section” of the male wing. They alleged he had more access to visitors and lived under noticeably different circumstances than the average inmate.

We dey prison, and he dey special place inside the prison,” one of the former inmates stated in Pidgin. “People dey come visit am and we dey see am every day. He no dey outside o, but he no join us for the general cell.”

Another inmate added that although they didn’t have personal contact with Bobrisky, his presence in the facility was visible. However, the controversial figure reportedly remained separated from other inmates and did not participate in communal prison life.

He no dey relate with us like that. We just dey see am from far,” the ex-inmate continued. “The place wey dem put am different from our own.”

The revelations have sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians questioning whether Bobrisky’s fame influenced how he was treated behind bars.

eelive.ng recalls that the social media personality was arrested in early April 2024 after a series of viral videos showed him spraying and mutilating naira notes, an act deemed illegal under Nigerian law. Following his arrest, he was arraigned and convicted on April 12, 2024.

The court handed him a six-month jail sentence without the option of a fine, describing it as the maximum punishment under the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

Bobrisky reportedly served the full sentence and was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on August 5, 2024. His imprisonment was one of the most talked-about topics during the period, drawing widespread reactions from fans, critics, and legal observers alike.
