
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly during a live-stream, an action that reportedly resulted in a serious road crash.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in a statement issued on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, said the incident which occurred on Sunday, 14 December 2025, involved dangerous driving that endangered both Peller’s life as well as the lives of other road users.
According to the police, Peller’s actions during the live broadcast constituted a deliberate attempt to take his own life and posed a significant threat to public safety. The Command confirmed that he has been taken into custody for further investigation.

The case is currently being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and police authorities stated that the outcome of the investigation will be made public upon conclusion. The suspect is expected to be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful acts.
He emphasised that such behaviour will not be tolerated, adding that offenders will face the full weight of the law. The Command also urged all motorists and road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining public peace and safety across the state.
