Grammy Award-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy whose real name Ebunoluwa Damini Ogulu) has made headlines for a generous humanitarian gesture, donating $100,000 to social media activist VeryDarkMan—Martins Vincent Otse, for charitable causes.

In a widely shared video announcement on December 26, 2025, VeryDarkMan revealed that the funds — entrusted directly to him by Burna Boy — will be split equally: $50,000 to cover fines and secure the release of inmates across Nigeria’s prisons. Many detainees are reportedly held not for serious crimes but due to inability to pay relatively small court-imposed fines, ranging from ₦30,000 to ₦300,000.

VeryDarkMan emphasized his commitment to transparency, stating plans to collect data on eligible inmates from all 36 states and similarly identify hospital beneficiaries to ensure fair distribution. He expressed profound gratitude to Burna Boy for the trust and for prioritizing humanity.

Later that same day, reports and circulating videos revealed that both the singer and VeryDarkMan visited a prison facility, carrying $50,000 to directly assist in freeing some prisoners by settling their outstanding fines.

This aligns with the artist’s history of low-key charitable acts, including previous instances of settling hospital bills in Port Harcourt and supporting victims in other crises.

Social media users have hailed the collaboration as a positive example of using influence and resources for social good, with many calling it “real love for home and humanity.”
