Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has spoken about the memorable experience of collaborating with Colombian music icon Shakira on the official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai.”
In a recent conversation with Ellie Prohan, the Afrobeats star reflected on the creative journey behind the global collaboration, describing it as a dream come true.
Burna Boy revealed that he had always hoped to work with Shakira and expressed his excitement over how smoothly the project came together.
Burna Boy said:”I have always wanted to work with Shakira. It was a great experience and it turned out to be amazing, you know.”
Speaking about the recording process, Burna Boy disclosed that the collaboration involved constant communication between both artistes.
He explained that after recording his parts, he would send them to Shakira, who regularly offered feedback and encouraged him to refine his performance to make the song even better.

He continued: “I would record and send it to her, and she would be like, ‘I love this, but can we add this? Can we do this? Can we speak Spanish here?’ And I am like, ‘Okay, I will do that.'”
Burna Boy noted that Shakira never stopped looking for ways to improve the record, describing her dedication to perfection as one of the most impressive aspects of working with her.
He added: “Then she will call again. There is always room for improvement, in every stage.”
Burna Boy also praised the Colombian superstar’s exceptional work ethic, revealing that she spent long hours rehearsing and preparing throughout the project.
According to him, witnessing her discipline and commitment firsthand made the experience even more inspiring.
He concluded: “The preparation was amazing. She would practise all day long.”
