Busola Dakolo’s Case Thrown Out of Court

Busola Dakolo’s case against Biodun Fatoyinbo has been thrown out of the court. Months ago, the photographer and public figure accused the COZA pastor of raping her when she was a teenager.

An Abuja judge, Othman Musa, dismissed the rape allegations against Fatoyinbo. Unfortunately, the judge made this ruling saying the case was outside the statute of limitations.

Fatoyinbo’s lawyers wagered on the fact that the alleged crime took place in 2002. So the court dismissed the case not due to Fatoyinbo’s innocence. Rather, it was the fact that he committed the crime almost two decades ago.

Also, the judge said the case bordered more on punishment than justice. This ruling is ridiculous based on the fact that in the eyes of the law, punishing Fatoyinbo would be justice.

Some public figures have been cruel remarking about Fatoyinbo’s win. Femi Fani-Kayode and Tonto Dikeh celebrated with the acquited rapist on Instagram, giving ill-informed comments.

On the other hand, Busola Fatoyinbo took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the matter. Also, she pointed out some discrepancies in the court process and the ruling.

Apparently, the court claimed Busola Dakolo’s case file had gone missing as at the time the judge gave a final ruling, which she considered quite curious.

We just hope that the women who saw Busola Dakolo as an inspiration to stand up for themselves do not get discouraged by this. One way or the other, the perpetrators and supporters of sexual violence will get justice.
