Nigerian chef Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has shared the struggles she faced after her 2023 cook-a-thon attempt went viral.
In a recent interview, Chef Dammy revealed that she wasn’t expecting the massive attention and was shocked to see herself trending on social media.
The chef candidly spoke about the cyberbullying and emotional toll she experienced, saying, “If you had asked me this question two years ago or a year ago, I might be crying. But now I’m happy I can talk about this without crying.” She described the online abuse as just a fraction of the challenges she faced in real life, including bullying and assault.

Chef Dammy confessed that the experience left her feeling broken and overwhelmed, to the point where she wished she could forget it all. “Social media broke me,” she said.
Despite the struggles, Chef Dammy has since taken steps to pursue a professional culinary career, enrolling in a chef course at the Hospitality Business School in Lagos on a full scholarship.
Recall that Chef Dammy made headlines for completing a 120-hour cookathon, surpassing Hilda Baci’s previous record.

Chef Dammy’s cookathon began on June 8, 2023, and ended on June 13, 2023, with her cooking a variety of dishes throughout the marathon. However, Guinness World Records later clarified that Chef Dammy hadn’t applied for the record attempt before starting her cookathon, which means her achievement might not be officially recognized.
