Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bukunmi Oluwasina has sparked widespread conversation online after making a blunt statement about what she described as uninformed criticism from members of the public regarding the Nigerian film industry.
In a strongly worded post shared on social media, the award-winning star expressed frustration at fans who frequently comment on how movies should be produced, marketed and sold, despite having no direct experience in filmmaking.
“Nobody has a lot to say about the industry, knows how things should be done, how movies should be sold and marketed and how money made is shared, than a clueless fan who has never shot a film in his or her entire life, let alone market, sell, or made profit,” she wrote.
Her remarks quickly drew attention, with many
industry colleagues and fans weighing in on both sides of the debate. Some supported Oluwasina’s stance, arguing that filmmaking is a complex and capital-intensive process that outsiders often underestimate. They noted that producers and directors must navigate distribution challenges, piracy, promotion costs and fluctuating cinema attendance, factors that are rarely visible to the general public.
