Controversial Nigerian singer Portable is now facing nine criminal charges. These include assault, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
He appeared in court on Monday at the federal high court in Ota, Ogun State.
His court appearance came after a video went viral on Sunday, showing him in police custody. Reports say this is connected to a complaint from his former partner, Ashabi Simple.

Prosecutors claim Portable attacked Ashabi, several police officers, and others at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day.
Other people named as victims in the case include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
He also faces accusations of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at N12 million, which belongs to Ileyemi and has the dealer number Wally Dex Auto.

In court, two of Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, but Ashabi herself was not there.
Police also accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, while she was on duty.
The judge denied Portable’s request for bail, saying the police officer who was allegedly assaulted was not present in court.
The judge said the officer must appear before making a decision on bail. As a result, Portable will stay in custody until the next bail hearing on January 19.
The Ogun command recently ordered an investigation into a now-viral video depicting the singer being assaulted in custody.
