Afrobeats superstar Davido has publicly called on U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to monitor the upcoming Osun State governorship election in Nigeria.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, highlighted growing concerns about tension, potential violence, intimidation, and disruption of the democratic process as the August 15 poll approaches.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” Davido wrote. “There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”

He appealed to the United States and global observers to encourage Nigerian authorities to protect every voter and ensure every vote is respected. “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” the post concluded, tagging @realDonaldTrump.
The message follows Davido’s earlier statements warning that he would involve Trump if the election faced irregularities. His uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, is seeking re-election in a closely watched contest.
Davido has been actively campaigning and urging residents to reject violence, emphasizing that voters must be able to choose without fear. The Independent National Electoral Commission has affirmed readiness for a credible poll.
