Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Davido has revealed an unexpected behind-the-scenes twist in the making of the music video for his classic hit Aye.

Speaking during an interview with Capital Xtra, the singer disclosed that the video vixen that was supposed to to be used as the video’s lead female character had to withdraw at the last minute due to contractual obligations with a beauty pageant.

According to Davido, preparations for the shoot were already complete when his team received the news.

“The girl that was meant to be the main girl, she was in some pageant thing. So we were about to shoot and the manager said they called from the pageant that she’s under contract and we can’t use her for the video,” he said.

With production set to begin and no room to postpone filming, Davido said his team was forced to make a quick decision.

“We couldn’t reschedule, so we had to use her make-up artist,” he added.

The singer noted that the unexpected casting change ultimately became part of the video’s success story.

“The video got so huge that they fell out,” he said.
