The joy of watching a wave of designers bring their masterpieces to the runway is always unmatched. Each show feels like a perfect stroke of craftsmanship, and Africa Fashion Week London 2025 was no exception.

It’s one event I can never get enough of, and this year, it revealed some authentic diamonds on the runway. Take a walk with me through the brilliance that made this year’s show unforgettable.

Welcome to Fashion Lookbook Weekly.

Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) marked its 15th anniversary on 9–10 August 2025 at Space House, London.

Since its inception in 2011 by Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, AFWL has grown into the world’s largest showcase of African and Black fashion.

This year’s edition featured runway shows, exhibitor marketplaces, panel discussions, and cultural experiences, from the Adire Textile Exhibition to a vibrant Cultural Catwalk.

A Platform for African Creativity and Heritage

AFWL has always been more than a fashion show — it’s a movement. With 90% of its workforce comprising people of color, students, and marginalized groups, the platform emphasizes sustainability, diaspora collaboration, and entrepreneurship.

Over the past 15 years, it has supported thousands of designers while amplifying African textiles such as Adire, Aso Oke, and Ankara, ensuring they remain part of global fashion conversations.

Dimeji Ilori’s Kwara Collection Steals the Spotlight

Among the standout designers this year was Dimeji Ilori, a rising Nigerian talent whose work is deeply rooted in Yoruba heritage.

His Kwara Collection paid homage to Aso Oke, especially the timeless Sanyan weave, reimagined in modern silhouettes and bold, elegant cuts.

Each look celebrated craftsmanship while retelling stories of cultural identity, pride, and artistry from Ilori’s hometown in Kwara State.

Why the Kwara Collection Resonated at AFWL 2025

Ilori’s showcase struck a chord because it balanced tradition and innovation. While the fabrics and motifs honoured Yoruba culture, the tailoring and styling placed the collection firmly within today’s global fashion landscape.

This blend of past and present is what AFWL stands for, a platform where African designers prove that heritage fabrics can command international relevance.

It’s time to spotlight the man whose creativity shaped the Kwara Collection — Dimeji Ilori.

The Story Behind The Kwara Collection

As someone in the fashion space, I make it a point to always keep tabs on upcoming designers, one of my favorites being Dimeji Ilori, whose pieces I have seen in person.

Coming straight from the Africa fashion week, I just had to hear from the horse’s mouth and get a better glimpse into the work and sweat that went behind such an orthodox yet unconventional collection like this.

According to him, the fashion brand was commissioned to design a collection dedicated to his beloved state of origin, Kwara State. For him, the project was more than just fashion; it was a deeply personal journey.

The Kwara State Fashion Collection reflects the core values of the Dimeji Ilori brand — cultural appreciation and authentic representation. Every piece in the collection celebrates the heritage, craftsmanship, and beauty of Kwara, while showcasing Nigerian culture on a global stage.

In a heartfelt gesture, Ilori also expressed his gratitude to the First Lady of Kwara State, Her Excellency Amb. Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, who not only believed in his creative vision but also modelled on the runway, embodying the cultural pride and elegance of the collection.

Final Thoughts

Dimeji Ilori’s Kwara State Fashion Collection at Africa Fashion Week London 2025 is more than a showcase of style; it is a statement of heritage, identity, and cultural pride.

By weaving together tradition and modern craftsmanship, Ilori not only honours his Yoruba roots but also positions Nigerian fashion on a truly global stage.

His work reminds us that fashion can be more than aesthetics; it can be storytelling, cultural preservation, and celebration all at once.
