A Nigerian TikTok has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for posting a video claiming that some of its officers were kidnapped in Kwara State.
According to the commission’s spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna, the arrest was confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday, where he disclosed that the video suggested that the kidnappers demanded money from the commission before releasing the officers.
The suspect, Udoma David Ekeh, who goes by @davysoft231 on TikTok, posted a video in December 2025 claiming that officers from the Ilorin office were attacked and kidnapped by bandits during an operation in Kwara State.
After looking into the claims, the commission said the story was not true and called the video false and likely to cause public panic.
He also added that the video gave a wrong impression about its work, especially its ongoing efforts against internet fraud.
The commission found that the video received a lot of attention on TikTok, with thousands of views, likes, and comments, helping spread the information to more people.

The agency said the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
