The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa for allegedly mutilating the naira.
The commission announced the arrest on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, sharing a photo of the actress holding a placard with details of the alleged offence.
“The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 arrested a Kannywood Star, Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation,” the post read in part.
The commission said Inuwa was arrested after a video went viral on social media that showed her “conspicuously cleaning mucus from her nose with naira notes”.
The EFCC said it traced the video, identified the actress, and then arrested her for questioning.
She is being held at the commission’s detention facility while the investigation continues. The agency said she will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
Naira mutilation is a crime under Nigerian law. The Central Bank of Nigeria Act bans defacing, abusing, or mishandling the national currency and sets penalties for those who break the law.
