Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Eriata Ese has tackled a lady who criticised women for having children outside wedlock.
The lady had lamented online that many young women now give birth without getting married, saying, “Every girl just dey born anyhow without being married.”
Responding to her post, Eriata Ese defended women who find themselves in that situation, saying people should stop judging others without knowing their stories.
According to her, while marriage is a good thing, it is unfair to condemn those who choose a different path because everyone has their personal struggles and reasons.
She said some women may have gone through emotional trauma, trust issues, or heartbreaks that make them take time before settling down.
“In as much as marriage is a good thing, some people don’t think about why a person chose a certain path,” she said. “You don’t know my past, you don’t know if I have trust or anger issues I’m trying to heal from. You don’t know if I’m taking my time to study who I want to end up with or if there’s something I’m waiting for before I say yes, I want to marry.
“You’ll hear them saying, ‘Once you are 30+ and no husband, just have your kids.’ When you go ahead to have kids, they’ll say, ‘Where is the father? Single mother.’ When you choose to wait on God and clock 40, they’ll say, ‘Just look at you, no husband, no child.’ Then when God finally brings love, they’ll say, ‘Didn’t the man see younger girls?’” she lamented.
