In a fresh video making rounds on social media, Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has made bold claims about his father’s polygamous lifestyle and its consequences.
Speaking shirtless in the clip shared online, Kuti asserted that “Fela’s women all had other men.”
He argued that his father, known for marrying 27 women in a single 1978 ceremony and living with over 100 girlfriends, might still be alive today if he had embraced a more traditional approach demanding monogamy from his partners.

Kuti suggested that Fela’s open, non-monogamous household brought unnecessary stress and complications that contributed to his early death.
Fela passed away on August 2, 1997, at age 58. His family officially attributed his death to heart failure caused by complications from AIDS, though some associates have disputed this and alleged foul play.
The comments align with Seun’s long-standing views on relationships. He has repeatedly stated in interviews that monogamy “doesn’t work,” encouraging powerful men to embrace polygamy and multiple partners as a natural and ancestral arrangement.
