Funke Akindele At 48: Celebrating Nollywood Icon

Funke Akindele is one of the most influential women in modern Nollywood history. She has been able to inspire her generation and the budding era of Nollywood through her work ethics, mettle and pursuit of excellence. Since her emergence in the late 90s and early 2000s with the popular television series, ‘I Need To Know’, Akindele has continued to attain prominence as a movie actress and film producer.

Today, Sunday, August 24, Akindele is celebrating her 48th birthday. While has suffered from personal turmoil in recent years, Akindele stands strong as a mother of two (a set of twins), a multi-award winning movie thespian and one of the influential figures in the Nigerian movie industry.

Celebrating her milestone, she wrote on IG, “it’s my birthday!”

She went further to write, “Blessed and grateful to God for another year.” After adulating herself on IG, she went further to share fascinating photos of herself as she expresses gratitude for life.

Funke Akindele, whose full name is Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele is a Nigerian actress, filmmaker, producer, director, politician, and entrepreneur.

She first gained recognition in the UNFPA-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know (1998–2002), playing “Bisi”.

Equally, the renowned thespian is a powerhouse in action and comedy, winning Best Actress in Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) multiple times—2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022—totaling five wins.

She is one of the most decorated movie actresses in modern cinema history.
