Funke Akindele’s latest blockbuster, Behind The Scenes, has shattered records to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025, surpassing ₦512 million at the box office and emerging as the fastest Nigerian movie to cross the ₦500 million milestone.
Distributor FilmOne Entertainment celebrated the milestone, stating: “And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa, for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love. ₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. The film, which explores the pressure that pushes one to fake lifestyle, features Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Mr Macaroni, Ibrahim Chatta, and Big Brother Naija stars Wanni x Handi, among others.
Following advance screenings on December 10 and 11 that built massive anticipation, it made headlines for its record-breaking opening weekend, crossing ₦200 million and breaking five box office records after hitting the cinemas on the 12th of December.
This latest achievement, adds to Akindele’s unmatched box office legacy. Her prior release, Everybody Loves Jenifa released in 2024, remains the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time with over ₦1.8 billion in earnings, after surpassing her own record set by A Tribe Called Judah.
