A Nigerian culinary expert Eshi Anani, popularly known as Chef Anani, has set her sights on shattering the Guinness World Record for the longest grilling marathon.

The chef announced her ambitious 60-hour attempt which is scheduled for March 5-8, 2026, at the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Idi-Oro, Mushin. The challenge is timed to align with International Women’s Day, and will make the event a powerful celebration of female strength and endurance in the culinary industry.

“I chose this date to showcase women’s resilience,” she explained. “In this field, women are often underrepresented and undervalued. People tend to link strength and stamina with men alone. This challenge proves female chefs are just as strong, capable, and determined.”

At a recent press conference in Lagos, Chef Anani confirmed that Guinness World Records officially accepted her application less than a month after submission. The current record of 40 hours, 49 minutes, and 17 seconds was set by Panther City BBQ in July 2022.

While targeting 60 hours, Anani hopes to extend the feat to 72 hours. She will lead a dedicated team of three, joined by chefs Favour ‘Wakachef’ Ogbonna and Osahon ‘TheFitChef’ Joy. To comply with GWR rules, the team will follow a strict rotation: 22 hours of grilling followed by a mandatory 2-hour rest in each 24-hour cycle.

Official timekeepers and fitness monitors will oversee the entire process, documenting every detail to ensure adherence to regulations.
