Banky W, popular Nigerian singer, actor, and preacher has paid glowing tribute to his longtime friend and Big Brother Naija host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, hailing his journey from obscurity to becoming one of Africa’s most recognisable media personalities.
In a heartfelt message shared via Instagram, Banky W reflected on Ebuka’s inspiring rise, attributing his success not just to talent, but to resilience, hard work, and divine grace. According to him, Ebuka’s story serves as a reminder that perseverance and consistency are just as important as natural ability and visibility.
Recalling Ebuka’s humble beginnings, Banky W noted that despite participating in the first season of Big Brother Nigeria, Ebuka didn’t win. In fact, he placed eighth. But rather than fading into obscurity, he relentlessly built a name for himself, one opportunity at a time.
“He didn’t come 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, but 8th,” Banky W wrote. “Yet, he didn’t allow that to define his future. He didn’t win the show, but he won in life.”
He highlighted the many phases of Ebuka’s career, hosting Rubbing Minds, writing for newspapers, earning a master’s degree, hosting political debates, and seizing even the smallest of opportunities, all of which eventually prepared him for the iconic role he plays today as the face of Big Brother Naija.

Banky W drew a powerful comparison between Ebuka’s journey and the biblical story of Jesus turning water into wine. In the scripture, Jesus only performed the miracle after the servants had filled every jar with water, trip after trip, without knowing when or if anything would happen. That, according to Banky W, mirrors Ebuka’s journey, years of quiet, thankless hustle before the breakthrough.
“We never know when grace will breathe on our efforts and give us the moment that changes everything,” he wrote. “Our job is to keep filling the jars.”
He continued: “Think of Ebuka, not just for his fashion or fame, but for his relentless pursuit of purpose. His consistency, courage, and commitment are what truly define him.”

Banky W went on to commend Ebuka not just as a friend but as an example of what it means to stay true to oneself in the face of uncertainty. He also extended his congratulations to other influential media personalities Osas Ighodaro and Farooq “Egbon Steez” Kperogi, noting their own unique contributions to the creative and media landscape.
Concluding the tribute, Banky W offered a deeper reflection to his followers:
“Success takes grace and grind. The grace is from God. The grind is from you. So while we celebrate Ebuka, let’s also ask ourselves: what does ‘filling the jars’ look like in our lives?”
