Former two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly weighing a permanent retirement from the sport following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends who are also key members of his team.
The 36-year-old British-Nigerian boxer, who survived the December 29, 2025, crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with minor injuries, has privately informed his family of his intentions to step away, according to his uncle, Adedamola Joshua.

Speaking exclusively to newsmen during a visit to the family home in Sagamu, Ogun State, Adedamola Joshua described the decision as a source of relief for the family, who have long endured emotional strain every time Joshua stepped into the ring.
The uncle confirmed that Joshua personally shared the news with family members in the aftermath of the devastating incident, which occurred just days after the boxer’s high-profile sixth-round knockout victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, 2025.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, has been charged with multiple traffic offenses, including causing death by dangerous driving, and the case is ongoing in Sagamu Magistrate Court.
