Nollywood actor, Bucci Franklin, has opened up about how acting in church drama during his early years helped him discover his career path and also strengthened his walk with God.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Franklin said his very first experience on stage was at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), where he was an active member as a teenager.

He explained that, at that time, he was the youngest person in the men’s fellowship drama group. According to him, the fellowship was filled mostly with elderly men, many of them in their 50s, but he was included as the only teenager in the team.

I started from church. In my formative years, I was attending ECWA. Imagine being the only teenager in the men’s fellowship drama group, performing with men in their 50s right there on the pulpit where baptisms were held,” he recalled.

The actor noted that those church stage experiences went a long way in shaping his acting skills and also played a big role in his spiritual growth. He said that the discipline and exposure he got from being part of the group made him more confident about his gift and prepared him for bigger roles later in life.

Reflecting on how much impact it had on him, Franklin added that he believes his journey was guided by God right from the beginning.

When I think about my experience as a child growing up and having different encounters with my Heavenly Father as regards my job, I know. I don’t need a soothsayer or somebody with a silver tongue. I know,” he said firmly.

Bucci Franklin stressed that his story is proof that one’s background can serve as a solid foundation for success, as long as a person is willing to stay consistent and make use of the opportunities around them.
