Nollywood actress Toluwani George has opened up about how she struggled with imposter syndrome after joining the industry without a theatre background.
In a recent interview with TheCable Lifestyle, the Love and New Notes actress talked about how she started acting during the COVID period by making TikTok videos.
“It was very circumstantial for me. It wasn’t deliberate. I think it started during COVID… the whole world was on hold… So, I had started just doing these videos on TikTok.”
She explained that a producer later invited her to audition for a church drama, which led to her first feature film role, even though she had no experience.

“I am like, you think I can do it with no acting experience? He’s like, yeah, I think you can do it. And so he gave me my first, like, actual feature film. And I did it.”
She said that her later projects appeared on streaming platforms, including the Showmax series Wura, where she played Eve.
Toluwani admitted that she often felt pressure to prove herself.
“So I used to have imposter syndrome, especially because I didn’t have a theatre background.”
She added that she had to work harder to prove she earned her roles for her talent, not just her looks.
“For the longest, I struggled with that… Now I have to show that I’m not just a pretty face.”
The actress said she avoids negativity on social media by staying off X and blocking trolls when needed.
Toluwani has also appeared in Love and New Notes with Timini Egbuson and in projects on Netflix and Prime Video. She said she has several new works coming soon.
