David Adeleke, Nigerian Afrobeats star, better known as Davido, has spoken about how the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, completely changed his life and career.

In October 2022, tragedy struck when Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s home in Banana Island, Lagos. The heartbreaking incident happened just days after the boy’s birthday and shook fans across the country.

At the time, Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland, took a long break from public appearances and social media as they mourned the loss.

He explained that stepping away from music after the incident allowed him to reflect deeply on his priorities and how he wanted to move forward in his career.

Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move going forward. It changed my life,” the singer said.

Davido also spoke about the emotional strength he and Chioma showed during that period. According to him, they are proud of how they handled the tragedy and managed to bounce back stronger. He revealed that many people have approached him in public places to thank him for inspiring them to stay strong during their own challenges.

I know how many people randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times. I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we’ve got twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” he said.

Davido and Chioma welcomed a set of twins in October 2023, exactly one year after Ifeanyi’s passing. The news brought joy to their family and fans, who had prayed for their healing.
