Nollywood veteran Ireti Doyle has opened up about how she nearly turned down the role that made her a household name in the beloved sitcom Fuji House of Commotion.
In a recent interview, Doyle revealed she was hesitant to accept the part of Sisi Carol after starring in Amaka Igwe’s more sophisticated drama Solitaire, where she played a classy love interest opposite Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD). However, she felt the comedic, slapstick character was far from the refined image she wanted to build.

When the late producer and director Amaka Igwe offered her the role, Doyle hesitated. Nevertheless, Igwe responded with a direct challenge: “A consummate actor is one who is able to run the entire gamut, from hardcore strong characters all the way down to slapstick. Maybe you lack range.”
As a result, the remark struck a nerve and prompted Doyle to take the part. Consequently, she now credits the decision and Igwe’s wisdom with accelerating her fame. Doyle has expressed deep gratitude to the late filmmaker for pushing her beyond her comfort zone
Fuji House of Commotion, produced and directed by Amaka Igwe, remains one of Nigeria’s most cherished sitcoms, featuring Kunle Bamtefa as Chief Fuji and an ensemble cast that entertained audiences for years.
