I am a mummy’s boy, she is the reason I exit – Damson Idris opens up on deep bond with his mother

Damson Idris, the British-Nigerian actor has openly embraced his identity as a “mummy’s boy,” saying he is no longer ashamed to admit it.

In a recent interview with Kiss FM London, the 33-year-old actor shared how much his mother means to him, calling her the reason for his existence and his biggest supporter.

I am a mummy’s boy. Big time,” Idris said. “I’m not ashamed to admit it anymore. It used to be like, ‘ah, he’s a mummy’s boy.’ But now, I’m proud of it. That woman is the reason I exist. She’s my biggest fan, and I’m hers.”

He added that his main motivation is to make his mother proud, drawing a parallel between himself and a character named Joshua in one of his roles.

She’s the one I want to make proud. I relate to Joshua in that sense, he just wants to make his mum proud, be the best, and win a championship. Hopefully, I can win a championship in my own way too,” he said.

Idris was raised in Peckham, South East London, as the youngest of six children by his single mother, Philippa Idris, Damson’s journey from poverty to Hollywood was built on her sacrifices.

His mother, who migrated from Nigeria’s Oyo State, worked multiple jobs, including selling gold across Europe, to provide for her children. She instilled discipline, faith, and ambition in Damson, values that continue to guide his life and career. He credits her as the reason he exists and the driving force behind his success.

Despite once feeling embarrassed about being labeled a mummy’s boy, Damson now embraces it fully, often calling his mother his biggest fan, and proudly declaring himself hers.
