I am disappointed – Charly Boy reacts as US gets first ever Pope

Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy has reacted to the emergence of American-born, Cardinal Robert Prevost as the leader of the Catholic church.

Earlier this evening, white smoke billowed above the Sistine Chapel, signalling that the cardinals have selected the 267th leader of the Catholic Church on the second day of the conclave.

During the papal conclave, the cardinals were not allowed to leave or have any contact with the outside world while they elected the next leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.

However, Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, a 73-year-old Frenchman born in Morocco, made the announcement of a new Pope.

Announcing the new Pope, Dominique said: “I announce to you a great joy, We have a Pope. The most eminent and the reverend Robert Francis.”

Prevost, who was chosen as the new Pope, took the name “Pope Leo XIV.”

Reacting to the announcement, the entertainer via his Instagram on Thursday expressed disappointment that the Pope isn’t a black man.

He wrote: “Am a little disappointed my people, why was I expecting a black man for a change? First American Pope in history has been ELECTED!Cardinal Robert Prevost now to be addressed as Pope Leo XIV!”
