Actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has explained why she took legal action against blogger Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro.

She said the blogger twisted a video of her to make her look bad and to invite online ridicule.

Ajao told reporters the trouble started after she attended the burial of the father of Ambassador Odunlade Adekola.

She said Adabasioni copied and edited a video, originally made by another party, and posted it online with a false story.

“I have been a target for cheap bloggers and social media trolls for years,” Ajao said. “This time the video was highly manipulated. Nobody asked questions. I became a subject of ridicule.”

Because of that, Ajao said she worked with her media and legal team and asked the police to act. The blogger was arrested and charged under the Nigerian Cybercrime Act for criminal defamation and cyberbullying.

Police asked the blogger to show the evidence he claimed to have.

According to Ajao, he could not produce any proof. He was detained for two weeks at Ikoyi Prison.

He assassinated my character. He paid for it in full,” she wrote in a public statement.

Eniola said she forgave him after he apologised, but warned other bloggers.

If you want to drive traffic to your page with defamatory stories, you will pay dearly for your foolishness,” she said.

She also spoke directly to bloggers who go to events to make videos for trolling. “I promise you, I will go to the full extent of the law with you,” she said.

Learn from the fate of Adabasioni. If you choose not to, you will learn the hard way. Nobody is above the law.

Ajao thanked those who supported her during the case. She gave special thanks to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, whom she called a “police beacon” for stepping in, and to human rights activist Aghedo Kehinde Stephen for his help and guidance.
