Nigerian singer and member of the music group Bracket, Obumneme Ali, popularly known as Smash, has spoken about the long-standing conflict between Peter and Paul Okoye of the famous P-Square duo.

Smash revealed that he believes the disagreement between the twin brothers goes beyond ordinary issues and should be described as “spiritual.”

The singer made this known while appearing on a recent episode of the AFRIMMA Podcast, where he featured alongside his bandmate, Vast. During the interview, he explained that he had discussed the matter directly with both brothers at different times and came to the conclusion that the rift was not normal.

According to him, Paul Okoye also acknowledged that the problem between himself and his brother Peter had a spiritual undertone.

Smash stated, “I’m closer to Paul than Peter but I always go to Peter’s house and he listens to me whenever I speak to him. But unfortunately, if you ask me as an in-house, I will say that problem is spiritual. The last time I met Paul I told him his problem with his brother Peter wasn’t normal, that it’s spiritual, and he agreed.”

The Bracket member further noted that it was sad to see how the brothers, who once shared a very strong bond and passion for their brand, are now unable to work together as they used to.

He recalled how close Peter and Paul were during the peak of their career and how their elder brother, Jude Okoye, also played a significant role in the P-Square brand.

Smash said, “If you know how close these guys were and how they worked, you will feel so bad looking at what is going on today. Jude was part of P-Square. Paul and Peter, they loved that brand with so much passion.”

P-Square, made up of Peter and Paul Okoye, rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit songs such as Do Me, Bizzy Body and No One Like You. They became one of Africa’s most celebrated musical duos before their eventual split, which shocked fans across the continent.

Over the years, the brothers have had a public fallout that led them to pursue solo careers under the names Mr P and Rudeboy. Though they reunited in 2021, reports of tension between them have continued to make headlines.
