Funke Akindele Reacts to Kwara Church Attack

Popular Nollywood actress cum filmmaker, Funke Akindele  has reacted to the recent church attack, abduction, and killings of worshippers in Eruku, a boundary town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

A video circulating on social media showed the moment some group of gunmen stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the Eruku community, killing at least three people.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening during a church service at the Oke Isegun Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. Gunmen opened fire on worshippers and forced others into the bush at gunpoint.

One eyewitness told reporters: “The gunmen came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly. They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”

Another resident echoed the fear gripping the community: “They came in the evening and started shooting. Two people were killed instantly, and we don’t even know how many were taken.” 

Reacting to the video, the mother of two via the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter, on Wednesday described the footage as sad and disturbing.

Expressing sadness, the filmmaker noted that they cried after seeing an elderly woman who could not run for her safety

In her words: “Woke up to see a livestream video of people being attacked inside a church in Kwara.  This is sad and disturbing. I wept seeing that old woman who couldn’t walk well running for safety.  They are harmless citizens for God’s sake!!! I’m so weak. Chai.”

“That’s it: “what if my family was there ?It could have been anyone.  Sad,” she added.
