Uriel Oputa, Big Brother Naija star has strongly condemned Nigerians who are using the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of BBNaija winner Phyna, as content on social media.
Uriel took to her Instagram page to express anger over the trend, describing it as shameful and heartless. She said it is painful to see how some Nigerians now use every sad incident to gain attention online instead of respecting people’s privacy.
According to her, many content creators in the country lack originality and creativity, which is why they always run after trending news, even if it means adding to another person’s pain.
She warned that such behavior is not only insensitive but also shows how low the standard of online content has become in Nigeria.
The reality TV star appealed to Nigerians to give Phyna the space to mourn her sister without unnecessary drama from outsiders. She reminded the public that Phyna has legal representation and does not need anyone dragging her family issue for clout.
In her words, Uriel said she will not hesitate to call out anybody who uses Phyna’s name or her sister’s death for social media content. She described such actions as “disgraceful” and likened it to a “circus.”
She wrote, “Nigerians really don’t know when to stop. This is why I always say most Nigerian content creators lack creativity. That’s why everybody is doing the same thing, creating the same type of content, because nobody wants to think differently. Small-mindedness everywhere.
“To make matters worse, some people now use another person’s pain as content. If I see anyone using Phyna’s sister or Phyna’s name to chase clout, I will call you out publicly without shame. I will post it and stand by it.
“Let her mourn her sister in peace. Let her handle her private matter with her family and the company. Not everything is a joke until it happens to you.
“This behaviour is disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful. Leave her alone. She has lawyers. Somebody’s life is not Nollywood. You people are turning everything into a circus.”
