What started as a short social media reaction has grown into one of the most dramatic exchanges of the Osun 2026 governorship race.
On 26 July, the All Progressives Congress appointed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as Chairman of its National Campaign Council for the August 15 election.
Davido, nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and head of the Accord Party’s youth mobilisation team, responded almost immediately.
“Chai, and I like Hope o. My wife’s state. Hmmm. No worry, we go meet for field,” he posted.

The tone was respectful but firm. Two weeks later, the tension rose. During a press conference in Osogbo, Davido made a direct appeal. Addressing “our daddy from Imo State,” he said he had heard rumours of plans to turn the election into a political battleground. Citing his wife Chioma’s Imo roots, he pleaded for peace and for Osun people to freely choose their leader.
The reply as monitored by eelive correspondent, came swiftly and sharply. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma’s Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, dismissed the appeal as “emotional blackmail.”
He told Davido to speak to Osun voters instead and delivered the line that went viral; the singer should prepare to “officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band.”
The following day, Uzodimma issued a formal statement. He dissociated himself from his aide’s remarks, calling them personal opinions. Referring to Davido as “my son,” he clarified: “I’m not an Osun voter.” His role in the state, he said, was strictly as an APC leader supporting candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
