Nigerian-born British recording artiste Tinie Tempah, whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, has revealed that he has Igbo roots, attributing his creativity to his origin.
Speaking in a video shared on his YouTube page on Monday, Tempah noted that the Igbo nation had produced exceptional talents like Chinua Achebe, who won the Bookerman Prize, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who was nominated for the prize.
The multi-platinum-selling artist emphasised that he believes his ancestry greatly influenced his talent.

“I am from the Igbo tribe, and I do believe that there’s something very intrinsically creative about Igbo people.
“Growing up, I started to understand that a lot of Black authors from Nigeria, specifically the Igbo tribe, have won the Bookerman Prize. That’s a global book award. The likes of Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who were on Beyoncé’s album as well, have won that award.
“So, I think my talent and creativity have something to do with my heritage, lineage, and origin. And that’s beautiful,” he stated.
