According to him, this practical step is essential for navigating the often unpredictable nature of the music business and building a long-term, successful career.

He wrote, “Dear Upcoming… Little advice from IllBliss. Learn a skill or find a second and third hustle that will help you keep the lights on.”
Illbliss emphasised that diversifying income and staying proactive can help musicians weather tough times while giving them the freedom to grow creatively without financial pressure.
Speaking in a recent interview, Illbliss disclosed that a Lagos radio presenter once told him that he could not make it in the music industry rapping in Igbo.
The rapper revealed that when he was still an underground act trying to break into the Lagos music scene, a radio presenter bluntly told him he wouldn’t succeed because he rapped in Igbo.
According to Illbliss, the incident happened shortly after he released a track titled Igbo Boy. “Then, a radio presenter called me and said, ‘What are you trying to do? You can’t make it here. You’ve come here with an agenda. Omo-Igbo.’ Then he broke off into fluid Yoruba.”
