Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has encouraged men to rethink traditional ideas about strength, arguing that true resilience sometimes lies in accepting support rather than carrying every burden alone.
The actor shared the message while speaking on an episode of CreativiTea, where he reflected on marriage, emotional vulnerability and the pressures many men place on themselves.
According to Okanlawon, society often expects men to be constantly strong, independent and unshaken, leaving little room for them to express emotions or ask for help when life becomes overwhelming.
He explained that his understanding of strength has changed over the years, particularly through his experiences in marriage.
Rather than seeing dependence on a spouse as a weakness, the actor said he has learnt that leaning on his wife during difficult moments can be a sign of trust, partnership and emotional maturity.

He said: “When life gets hard, I go to my wife.”
“First of all, I am a man, if you punch a man he has the ability to absorb that punch. My job is to protect the people around me.”
He said: “You also have to be aware enough to find healing, on my speed dial i have people that when i am going through tough times, that i can talk to.”
He continued: ” I have a therapist on speed dial, I have a mentor on speed dial. Now let me tell you the truth, when it is now too hard, there is my wife.

Addressing his audience directly, Okanlawon urged men to let go of the belief that they must face every challenge in isolation.
He noted that having someone to rely on during difficult periods can make life’s burdens easier to bear and strengthen relationships in the process.
