Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has publicly apologised to Nigerians after receiving heavy criticism over her recent statement about introducing her daughter, Similoluwa, to clubbing and alcohol at the age of 17.
The actress had earlier caused a stir online after a video of her surfaced, where she proudly claimed she was the first person to take her daughter to a nightclub and also gave her her first alcoholic drink.

In her words at the time, Laide said, “In fact, I’m the first person that will bring her to a club. That was her first club experience ever. And I like the fact that, in her memory, her very first alcoholic drink and clubbing was through me.”

The statement immediately drew widespread backlash from Nigerians on social media, with many accusing the actress of setting a bad example for her teenage daughter. Some even questioned her parenting skills and values as a mother.
Reacting to the outrage, Laide Bakare released a new video on Saturday evening to address the controversy and apologise to the public.
In the emotional video, the actress explained that her earlier statement was a “slip of tongue”, adding that she never introduced her daughter to alcohol. She said she only took her out to have fun, and her words were misunderstood.
According to her, “I didn’t know I said it. The video was sent to me where I said it, but it was a slip of tongue. Such never happened. I didn’t introduce her to alcohol at all. I will never do that. The little girl, Similoluwa, even felt bad as well. She doesn’t like being put out there as a teenage girl abusing alcohol at a young age.
“I am using this video to say sorry, Simi. Sorry to all parents who felt I was wrong with that statement. Please forgive me for the blunder.”
